WEDNESDAY
NIGHT KICKOFF SQUARE DANCE!
September 10, 2008 8pm
Make-Out
Room
3225 22nd St at Mission, San Francisco
A
hot acoustic fiddle band from Portland OR pumping out music that makes
you want to get
up and dance, plus a caller who loves to introduce the uninitiated to
the
fun of a square dance party, with the emphasis on “party”!! No dancing
experience is needed, the callers will teach all dances from scratch
and will
call the moves all the way through. No need to bring a partner,
although you can if you want.
And same sex partners fit in fine. Followed by a performance
by the zany Gallus Brothers!
The
Water Tower String Band:
Cory Goldman, on the banjo, has studied the clawhammer style
deeply. On the bass fiddle Ben Wheelhoss pumps out each note with
pristine force. Josh Rabie lights up the fiddle with an electricity
that is ever-pulsing, and Kenny Feinstein who drives the guitar and
mandolin as effortlessly as air. Inspired by the current wave of
Northwest old time bands like the Tallboys and Foghorn Stringband, and
drawing from sources from the Reverend Jesus Tommy Jarrell to Bill
Monroe, they create piledrivin’, scuttlebuttin’, string breakin’,
hair-tearing, music that is sure to get the crowd dancing

In
the true spirit of Vaudeville,
The
Gallus Brothers (Lucas Hicks and
Devin Champlin) play half of each others instruments and then juggle
while singing and playing. You won't believe your eyes!
